Solar Electric Systems

Looking for a way to significantly reduce your electric bill? South Jersey Energy Service Plus can help by installing a solar electric system for your home or business. Solar electric systems use sunlight to generate clean electricity with no fossil fuels and no emissions.

In addition to being the “green” thing to do, a solar electric system is also an economically smart choice to reduce your energy bills and protect you from increased costs in the future.

New Jersey is a leader in rebate and incentive programs, helping to make a solar electric system affordable for your home or business. Our professionally trained team works hand in hand with the New Jersey Clean Energy program to ensure that your system will qualify for the maximum rebate possible.

Frequently Asked
Solar Electric System Questions

What is the right location for my system?

A well-designed solar electric system needs a clear roof exposure to the sun’s rays. Trees, roof gables, chimneys, buildings and other features of a home or landscape may block the panels from the sun and limit the system capacity.

System orientation affects performance and a south facing roof is best. However, those roofs facing east or west are also possible candidates.

How much space is needed for my system?
A typical home would need approximately 400 square feet of roof area to accommodate the solar electric panels for a 5kW system. Since the solar electric modules are interconnected; the exact number of modules can be adjusted to the size of the available roof area and/or your electric load.

Will the solar electric installation affect my roof?
No, the shading provided by the panels on the roofing will actually increase the life of the roof. If your roof will need replacement in the near future, we strongly recommend that the replacement coincide with the solar electric installation.

What kind of savings will my system provide?
We calculate the savings for your home based on the size of the system vs. usage. Savings estimates are average savings over several years, since year to year production will fluctuate due to weather and climate variations.

What financial incentives are available?
Currently, financial rebates are $1.75 per watt cash rebate up to the first 10 kW. For information click here or go to www.njcleanenergy.com.

For information on federal tax credits, click here or go to www.energystar.gov. Check with your tax professional for eligibility.

How much will my solar electric system cost?

How Solar Electricity Works

1. The Power Source - It starts with the sun.
We harness the energy of the sun and put it to work for you.

2. Power Production - Both sunny and cloudy days will produce power in a solar electric system. When sunlight falls on the solar panels it creates electricity.

3. Home Installation - The solar panels are usually attached to your home’s roof. The roof attachment system is specifically pre-engineered for strength and can fit any roof type.

4. Electricity You Can Use - The electric current produced by the solar panel is DC. The electrical appliances and lights in your home operate on AC electricity. So, your system includes an inverter to convert the DC electricity into AC.

5. Connecting - The final step to producing your own solar electricity is connecting your home's solar electric system to the utility grid. We perform the connection which completes the installation. Now you are harnessing the energy of the sun to offset your electric consumption and reduce your utility bill.

                                       GLOSSARY
Solar Panels - Collect the sun’s energy and convert it into DC electricity.
Inverter - Converts DC electricity into AC electricity.
Monitor - Allows you to view how your system is generating power.
Electrical Panel (Existing) - Distributes solar and utility electricity to loads in the house and back to the utility company.
Meter (Existing) - Actually spins backwards when solar electricity generated exceeds consumption.
Utility Power - Provided at night and when demand exceeds solar production
