Commercial
buildings have a large appetite for energy and account
for 18 percent of total U.S. energy consumption. In a typical office building, energy use accounts
for 30 percent of operating costs, the largest single
category of controllable costs.
Natural gas
will costs less to use in 2009 than any other major
energy source according to the Department of Energy’s
Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
According to the DOE, 1 million British thermal
units (Btus) of natural gas will cost an estimated
$11.12 this year, while the equivalent amount of
electricity will cost roughly three times as much
$33.41.
